Trends of Gas Cylinder Over Years
Gas cylinder is a container to store, and transport compressed gas. Compressed industrial gases, fuel gases and refrigerants rely on cylinders for their distribution. As the world goes green, the trends in gas cylinder technology are also heading in that direction.
The gas cylinders come in different type and variety of materials. Their categories are according to the gas they contain and for a range of application. They are dividing into four general types of gas cylinders which are Type I, Type II, Type III, and Type IV.
Type I Gas Cylinder
Firstly, Type I gas cylinders are from metal only, either seamless forged metal or seamless metal. Then, nonflammable gases such as nitrogen, argon, oxygen and helium are store in this type of gas cylinder. These cylinders are the cheapest but the heaviest. Unfortunately, static application and high-volume industrial usage is most suitable for this type of cylinder. So, in other words the condition that required low weight and portability is less suitable.

Type II Gas Cylinder
Next, this cylinder is made from metal vessel. Then, composite fiber will hoop wrapped the gas cylinder. It is suitable for storing and transporting flammable gases such as acetylene and propane. They have a much thicker wall but significantly lighter compared to Type I gas cylinders. Furthermore, they also have a flame arrestor, a device that prevents the release of gas in case of a fire. This makes it safer to use and transport. Type II gas cylinder are suitable for construction, welding and cooking gas. This type of gas cylinder is must to handle with care and store it in well-ventilated areas to prevent the buildup of hazardous fumes.
Type III Gas Cylinder
Type IV Gas Cylinder
Lastly, Type IV Gas Cylinder is from carbon composite with a polymer liner. They are the lightest but the most expensive gas cylinders available in market today. They are suitable for infrequent use applications and where maximum portability is required. It is used for high-pressure gases, such as hydrogen, and are made of high-strength composite materials. In addition, they can withstand high pressure and are subject to rigorous testing and certification before being used. These cylinders are typically used in applications where high pressure and safe storage are critical. For example, in the aerospace and automotive industries.
